Your wedding flowers set the tone for the entire celebration. As a local Novato florist, I've had the privilege of creating arrangements for intimate backyard ceremonies and larger venue weddings alike. Here's what I've learned.
Start With Your Color Palette
Everything flows from color. Before we talk specific flowers, decide on your palette:
- White & greenery — timeless, elegant, works in any season
- Blush & burgundy — romantic and warm, perfect for fall
- Yellow & peach — fresh and joyful, ideal for spring and summer
- Deep jewel tones — dramatic and luxurious for evening ceremonies
The Essential Pieces
Most wedding floral orders include:
- Bridal bouquet — the centerpiece of your look
- Bridesmaid bouquets — coordinating but slightly smaller
- Boutonnieres — for the groom and groomsmen
- Ceremony arch or altar arrangement
- Reception centerpieces — table arrangements
You don't need all of these. Many of my couples choose two or three pieces and focus their budget there.
Seasonal Flowers = Better Quality & Value
Working with what's in season gives you the freshest flowers at the best prices:
- Spring — peonies, ranunculus, tulips, lilac
- Summer — dahlias, sunflowers, garden roses, lisianthus
- Fall — marigolds, chrysanthemums, dried grasses, amaranth
- Winter — amaryllis, hellebore, evergreen accents, anemones
Planning Timeline
- 6–12 months out — book your florist and share your vision
- 3 months out — confirm flowers, quantities, and delivery details
- 1 month out — final walkthrough of all pieces
- 1 week out — confirm pickup or delivery time
Working With a Small Studio Florist
When you work with me, you're working directly with the person making your flowers — not a coordinator passing notes to a back room. That means your vision is always in focus, and adjustments are easy.
